This video ad claims “The Chinese man got backlash for feeding poop-dipped crackers to one of the famous Nara’s deer”, but my question here is what does it mean by “got backlash”? People would normally expect the kind of the social media “backlash” story to go like this;
A Chinese man posted a prank video where he smeared his feces on a rice cracker and fed it to one of the famous Nara’s deer. The video went viral, but the consequences were severe. He was not only doxed by the angry local people, but also busted and legally prosecuted in Japan. Even after returning back to his homeland China, he lost his job, got devorced. His life has been totally ruined…
…But in reality, none of them seems to have ever happened. You can google for the “incident”, but all you can find will be a couple of articles on Japan’s domestic media who say that an unknown local girl thinks she caught the scene where some random Chinese tourists did it. There is no picture or video recorded there, but they merely posted the whiny diary of an anonymous deer lover in Nara.
I could be missing the point because I’ve only watched the first one second of the video. I’m sorry I don’t have enough time to dig in deeper until figuring out the potentially most profound stuff on the entire internet. But my best efforts resulted in such short retention, in which I could so far only say that nothing has gone viral from the poopy cracker in Nara, thus, nobody got “backlash” there.
I appreciate the opportunity where I could learn something new about the vastly different word definitions in Japanese media that are geared toward readers who want to isolate themselves from the rest of the world and indulge in self-gratification exclusively with your local people, thank you!
