How Fake Media Outlet Scam gets Google Approval

They (🔗previous post) still keep popping up in my YouTube feed, and I keep clicking on them just to waste their budget. I’m not so eager, but occasionally in the mood to report to Google. And when I do, mostly they are gone in a few days. I’ve never expected this before, but sure, I’m realizing Google is not that lazy.

This is a brand-new advertiser that came around today.

Sponsored: travelescapadey

Advertiser: Paid for by AERGLO LIGHTING PRIVATE LIMITED
Location: India

As it seems to have been just in the approval process, it still shows their dummy website, which looks like a legitimate business website. Or, does it?

Just take a second look, and you’ll see something is off. Sentences are barely grammatically correct but full of unsophisticated, awkward syntax. It is not even written in Japanese except for the last two articles. More importantly, why am I seeing a travel agency’s website in the first place?

24 hours later, as expected, the advertised URL now points to their usual fake Gooニュース. But this time, it is built on an external domain, and they just redirected the URL to it, retaining the original content on the original website. They probably think it will help them keep the original domain name from being flagged as an unsafe website, even after the illegal activities are spotted. They may also expect to secure their Google Ads account from being taken down. Sorry, but I don’t think the system works that way.
